Recently, I assumed the role of Co President of the Chicago Police Hockey Club alongside our current President, to share the many responsibilities that come with the title. My first step as Co President was reaching out to the Chicago Blackhawks to create a connection with our club and the Youth Development Department of the Chicago Blackhawks. An initial shot in the dark has blossomed into a very promising partnership.

After a quick inquiry of who I should bounce my idea off of, I was put in touch with Spencer Montgomery of the Chicago Blackhawks Organization. After one meeting, we realized we had unlimited potential to make both of our efforts greater together. Mr. Montgomery’s enthusiasm of our proposed involvement in their efforts was incredibly welcoming coming from such an established, storied, and philanthropic organization.

It was at this point, the idea of getting members of the Chicago Police Hockey Club involved in the Chicago Blackhawks G.O.A.L. Program came to be. The GOAL Program (Go Out And Learn) sends a crew to schools around the Chicagoland area and introduces the sport of hockey to youth that may not have exposure to the sport. Floor hockey equipment is brought to the school and basic hockey skills are taught by the Blackhawks crew, who sometimes even includes former Blackhawk players as coaches, and at the conclusion of the clinic, the equipment is donated to the school so hockey can be a mainstay in that school’s athletic curriculum.

The goal of including the Chicago Police Hockey Club in this program is to give the youth of Chicago a chance to interact with Chicago Police Officers in a fun, friendly, and educating environment, while promoting the sport we love. While the execution of this partnership is still in its infancy, we are all very excited with the initial reception, and cannot wait to continue to grow this joint effort.

I would like to thank Spencer Montgomery and the entire Chicago Blackhawks Organization, as well as the members of the Chicago Police Hockey Club that have stepped up and volunteered their time for the benefit of the youth of Chicago. I couldn’t be prouder of all involved. I will try to update everyone on these endeavors regularly. Stay tuned!
