The Brotherhood Continues

By Ben Butzbach, 04/14/15, 10:30AM CDT

Last year, on Penalty Box Radio, we brought you the story of Nashville Fire Department’s hockey team and Metro-Nashville Police Department’s hockey team coming together for Firefighter Mikey Malone. The team played the “Mikey Malone Memorial Game” with the proceeds going to the Malone family.

This year, the team is coming to the aid of another fallen brother, Cincinnati Fire Apparatus Officer (FAO) Daryl Gordon, who died in the line of duty. An almost 30 year veteran of the department, FAO Gordon was tragically killed during a fire in an apartment complex fire. FAO Gordon was the driver on Cincinnati Fire Department’s Rescue 14. He was searching for victims when he became trapped in an elevator shaft. FAO Gordon left behind a wife and two daughters.

The 2015 Mikey Malone Memorial Game will be held at 7:30pm on April 18, at Ford Ice Center in Antioch, TN. The game will be free but donations will be accepted. If you are unable to attend the game, donations can also be made to:  Cincinnati Firefighters Local 48 office at 1011 West 8th Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45203.
